The Senior Fellowship continues to be a huge success .

Hemphill Community Center Chairman Mable Johnson received an award for her service and the service of Hemphill Community Center at the A.P.P.L.E. High School graduation. Appalachian Parents Providing Loving Education, the local home school group, presented our board of directors an award of appreciation for the years (2003-2016) they have used our facility for socialization activities. They have held proms, graduations, holiday functions, science fairs, and many other events at Hemphill Community Center. We are proud to provide a welcoming space for this awesome group of committed parent educa- tors and bright students. The 2015-2016 class graduation was held this year at Pine Mountain Grill. Congratulations to Hemphill’s own Ms. Madison Tolliver and her family on this rite of passage.

Friday Nite Pickin’ is always a blast and Dawson Creek is always a blessing. Last week was no exception. We all had a great time. We had several veterans in the house and we recognized each one for his service to this great country we live in. We appreciate being able to spend time with these great warriors.

The sixth annual Coal Miner’s Memorial Homecoming was a wonderful time of music and reminiscing for all who attended. We celebrated the contributions of coal miners and had a candlelight ceremony for the fallen miners. We also recognized the veterans present and we were happy to be able to recognize each of them for their service to our country. We had several open mic participants followed by two awesome shows by Dawson Creek and Mountain Melody. A special thanks to Rob Fleming and Mark Spangler, who have worked so hard each year for six years to see that this event happens. We appreciate all the community partners who contributed in any way. This event is a collaboration of the Coal Miner’s Monument Organization and Hemphill Community Center.
