Mae Fugate marks 89th birthday


Happy birthday to Mae ‘Granny Mae’ Fugate of Carcassonne. She turned 89 on Sept. 6. She had been in the hospital but is now doing a lot better. Her daughter Loretta Henrikson had a birthday on Sept. 7. They celebrated both with a dinner at Loretta’s home on Carcassonne.

Raymond ‘Ray’ Nichols is back home on Doty Creek and doing some better. Ray has cancer and is not feeling well at all. I wish him the best.

Happy anniversary to Roger and Dena Couch of Linefork. It was their 33rd on Sept. 6. Their daughter Tara and her boyfriend Caleb Collins recently went to Myrtle Beach and said they had a great time.

I hope Wendall Calhoun of Letcher is doing better. He has been in the hospital with dehydration and blood pressure problems and has also been going for chemo treatments. On Friday he had to be taken by ambulance to Louisville. His wife Doreen they are going to do surgery to remove a tumor. I hope he feels better soon.

Claudette Adams of Woodrock had to have bypass surgery recently but is home now and doing so much better. So glad it went well for her.

Happy birthday to Reece Fugate of Blackey. He will be two on Sept. 24. He is the son of Sue and Allen Fugate and has an older brother, Blake.

Happy birthday to my uncle, Dorse Back of Elk Creek. It was on Sept. 18.

A bunch of our family got together recently and went to the Little Shepherd Trail had a picnic. We did some fishing and let the kids play in the park. We had a good day.

Joyce Whitaker of Carcassonne, wrecked up in Elk Creek a few weeks ago. She went over a huge mountain and landed in the creek. She was so lucky. I talked to her the next day and she said she was beat up and bruised, but other than that she was fine. I’m so glad she is okay.

She also said the Imagination Library would be at Calvary College on Kids Day in October from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to sign children up for free books. Also Calvary has a thrift shop on the campus that is open Tuesdays and Fridays 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Happy birthday to Andrea Prince of Prestonsburg, formerly of Jeremiah, and Matthew Holbrook of Isom. Theirs were on Sept. 9. Kathy Caudill of Letcher had a birthday on the 10th, Lonis Morris of Isom the 14th, Vette Blair Caudill of Linefork the 14th, Kevin Adams of Jeremiah also the 14th, Lori Wells of Lexington and Darlene Jent of Elk Creek on the 15th, Karen Eldridge of Elk Creek the 18th, and Elijah Caudill of Blackey the 19th. He is now living in Lexington. Lyn Bates of Elk Creek had a birthday on Sept. 21.

My sympathy to the family of James ‘Bear’ Dixon of Virginia, formerly of Letcher. He died the 15th. They said he had a heart attack.

My sympathy to the family of Wanda Sue Banks of Jeremiah. She died on Sept. 17. She was the wife of Lee Banks Jr.

Autumn Madden of Carcassonne has been in St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington. She has seizures but they had gotten worse. She had surgery and got to come home Saturday. I hope she feels better soon.
