To the Editor:
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Willard Blankenship and his wife and children for providing 15 $100 food baskets and 10 individual dinners for people in our area this holiday season.
Willard is a 90-plus-year-old World War II veteran and still maintains his tough, military stature, and certainly doesn’t show his age. His beautiful wife and daughter made the trip up from South Carolina with him to pay for the food baskets at Food City.
Willard is originally from Jenkins but now lives in South Carolina.
He said he would like to be known as the little barefooted boy from Jenkins.
Willard donated 12 food baskets last year at this time last year.
I thank Willard for allowing me to be a part of this process. I also want to thank Food City and its employees for the hard work they put into fixing the baskets. They were greatly appreciated by those receiving them and I was humbled by the tears of so many.
Once again, I would like to thank a World War II veteran and his family. He is a member of the greatest generation.
