An Isom man is out of jail after he was arrested Monday night for allegedly shooting another man near a roadway at Smoot Creek.
Kentucky State Police say David Wayne Morris, 52, of 309 Midland Drive, Isom, shot Barney Stanger, age not given, of Cinnamon Drive on Smoot Creek, twice in his abdomen around 3:30 p.m. on May 3. Stanger was taken by ambulance to Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital and later flown to Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, Tenn., where he was listed in stable condition.
Morris was arrested at 4:25 p.m. on May 3 at his residence and was charged with first-degree assault.
He was lodged in the Letcher County Jail but a $70,000 property bond was posted for him on May 4.
Police said the .32 caliber handgun used in the shooting was located at Morris’s residence at the time of his arrest.
The case is under investigation by KSP Trooper Justin Cornett.
Arraignment is set for 11 a.m. on May 12.
