Police have charged a Dry Fork man with stealing jewelry from a neighbor’s house.
Bennett Mathew Kincer, 29, of 949 Little Dry Fork Road, was arrested Monday by Letcher County Sheriff ’s Deputy Travis Cantrell and charged with second-degree burglary (forced entry).
Police recovered jewelry stolen from Freda Campbell’s home located at Little Dry Fork and returned the items to her.
“We would like to credit the neighbors for being proactive, calling police and giving witness descriptions,” said Lt. Brian Damron. “We encourage people who see things in their neighborhoods to tell police. It makes for a more efficient investigation.”
Witnesses saw Kincer leave the scene, said Damron. The jewelry was found near Campbell’s residence.
Kentucky State Police Troopers Donnie White and Jason Bates as well as Whitesburg Police Chief Tyrone Fields and Whitesburg Captain Henry Day assisted in the case.
“It shows what happens when law enforcement agencies work together,” said Damron.
Kincer was being held Tuesday night in the Letcher County Jail.
