A Knott County man died Saturday morning in a logging accident near Deane.
Kentucky State Police said the dispatch center at Post 13 in Hazard received the call around 8:45 a.m. and Trooper Brandon
Watts responded to the scene off Loves Branch.
The initial investigation showed a logging crew was cutting trees when a felled tree became lodged in the top of another tree. Personnel continued working in the area and the tree became dislodged. David Michael Thomas, 25, of Kite in Knott County, was killed when the tree struck him as it fell. Letcher County Coroner Renee Campbell responded to the scene and pronounced Thomas dead.
There were no reports of any other injuries.
Thomas’s body was sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort for autopsy. The incident remains under investigation.
