Man held after investigation

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for today (Wednesday) in Letcher District Court for a 23-year-old man who was arrested by the sheriff’s department last week and charged with second degree rape.

Billy Monroe “B.J.” Baker Jr., of 355 Pert Creek Road, Whitesburg, was arrested May 29 after a nine-day investigation into allegations that Baker had sex with a 13-year-old female.

The victim’s relatives searched for the girl on May 20 and found her and Baker in a remote area of Ermine, police said.

Letcher County Sheriff ‘s Lieutenant M.K. Terry said the victim disclosed information to Kentucky State Police Detective Vickie Eversole confirming allegations that Baker had sex with the 13-year-old female.

“Upon further investigation by the Letcher County Sheriff’s Department, numerous items of physical evidence were located and will be processed for further investigation,” said Terry.

Baker is lodged in the Letcher County Jail under $10,000 cash bond.

The case is still under investigation by Letcher County Sheriff’s Deputy Jason Bates.
