A 37-year-old Blackey man was shot and killed early Sunday night during an argument at Boothill Road in the community of Letcher.
Kentucky State Police say David Ritchie, 37, was shot and killed after Ritchie assaulted a 47-year-old Cornettsville man, Milburn Glover, near the home of William Banks.
The shooting was reported to KSP Post 13 in Hazard at approximately 6:09 p.m., on Sunday. State troopers and members of the Letcher Fire and Rescue Squad responded to the 9-1-1 call.
State police say an “initial investigation” has determined that an argument occurred on Boothill Road, near the Banks residence, after Glover arrived at the scene and began arguing with Banks and Ritchie.
“The verbal argument between the three escalated into a physical altercation, in which Milburn Glover was physically assaulted by David Ritchie,” a KSP news release says. “Glover produced a firearm and fired a single shot, fatally wounding Ritchie.”
Ritchie was pronounced dead at the scene by the Letcher County Coroner’s Office. Glover was arrested and charged with one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Gover is also being held on a charge contained in an earlier arrest warrant that had been issued against him in an unrelated case.
Charges in relation to the death of Ritchie are pending as the investigation by Post 13 detectives continues. An autopsy was performed Monday at the state medical examiner’s office in Frankfort.
