Man held in bank holdup set for initial appearance

A 25-year-old Jeremiah man was scheduled to make his first court appearance today (Wednesday) since being charged last week with robbing a branch bank at Isom.

Kentucky State Police Detective Randy Combs has accused Dustin Allen Adams, 25, with walking into Community Trust Bank at Isom at 8 a.m. on January 21 and walking out with $14,500 in cash after he ordered two female employees to open the vault.

The allegations by Combs are included in a citation he wrote after Adams was arrested at his home about 8-1/2 hours after the robbery. The citation says Adams was armed with a .38-caliber handgun when he committed the robbery.

The citation also says police found a large amount of marijuana and a rifle previously reported as stolen after Adams gave them permission to search his home at of 2956 Highway 7 South, Jeremiah.

Adams admitted to selling marijuana and robbing the bank, the citation says.

Adams was arrested and charged with first-degree robbery, trafficking in marijuana less than five pounds (first offense), and receiving stolen property.

Adams is being held in the Letcher County Jail where bond was set at $50,000 cash.
