A Blackey man was removing a tree growing too close to his house when a large tree limb fell on him and killed him.
Letcher County Coroner Wallace “Spanky” Bolling said it appeared the tree being removed by Bill Walters, 34, had fallen into another tree when the accident occurred. Bolling said a chainsaw and other tools were found at the scene.
Bolling pronounced Walters dead at 9:15 p.m. on Sept. 21, ruling blunt force trauma as the cause of death.
Walters was the son of Virgie Walters Martin of Blackey. He enjoyed four-wheeling and traveling with his wife, Nancy Campbell Walters.
Surviving in addition to his mother and his wife are a daughter, Rebecca Lynn Walters of Jenkins and four uncles, Russell Walters, Charlie Walters, William Walters and Ralph Walters, all of Blackey.
Funeral services were held September 24 at the Blackey Missionary Baptist Church. Burial was in the Walters family cemetery at Blackey.
Letcher Funeral Home of Whitesburg had charge of arrangements.
