Many are in need of prayer

What a wonderful surprise we had at the rec center last Friday evening. Our wonderful friend and one of our workout buddies, Scarlett Coots, came by and worked out too. She looked so good and healthy. As many of you know, she has been taking multiple treatments for breast cancer and still has the surgery to go and then radiation treatments. She desperately needs our prayers and be specific in your prayers.

Another friend and workout girl that needs our prayers is Greta Hogg Howard. Maranda Webb and I were talking last week about how Greta had helped out with Scarlett’s fundraisers. Maranda told me Greta had said, “Who knows, it could be either of us next.” Then before Christmas came around we heard the sad news about Greta. She will be having her surgery this Wednesday the 23rd. I found this post on Facebook from Greta and thought it was something that would let everyone know what kind of person she is.

“I want to say thank you to everyone that has & is praying for me & my family. I have to say 2018 has ended with some challenges. I’m awaiting some test results before my surgery can take place. Your continued prayers are appreciated. I find the waiting one of the hardest challenges because you’re so ready to begin the fight. I wanted to share how God showed me today He is listening. I had a devotional I was going to use in the mornings but wanted inspiration also at night. This morning had been a hard one but I went out to Walmart anyway. There it was my favorite Bible verse on the front of a devotional in pink. I held it together until I got in the car because God was saying ‘Greta Be Still & Know That I Am God.’ He knows my every need. Thank you, God, for loving me. I hope this helps someone else know God is listening.”

More prayer requests that people have posted on Facebook are for Ann Thomas. She is now in Letcher Manor Rehab. Harold Day is now out of ICU but still has a long way to go to recovery. My special Aunt Mary Bealer that was having respiratory problems found out she has leukemia, so please pray very hard for her. She is one of the strongest women I have known. Her faith in God is amazing, also. We also found out my cousin, John Adams’s wife, Debby Adams, has been in the hospital and her family is asking for everyone to pray for her. Last but not least, don’t forget my Aunt Linda Hall in the Letcher Manor Nursing Home.

Another one of Letcher Independent Baptist Church’s members had a birthday. Miranda Dixon celebrated her birthday on the 21st. Also, one of our No Limits Fitness group had a birthday on the 19th. Teresa Hogg, we miss you very much. Get back when you can.

I saw where Steve and Tommye Banks’s granddaughter celebrated her first birthday. It seems impossible that it has been over a year when Tommye and I were talking about the many different methods of determining the gender of your baby before it is born and how she was going to her daughter’s that weekend and was going to try one of the old methods on her without her knowing it. Time is racing by for sure. Wonder why it seems to go faster the older we get?

I was thinking the other day about my birthday coming up in March and how I will be 62. Then I started thinking, “Daddy was only 70 years old when he passed away.” It’s hard to believe he was that young but back then I thought he was old. Now, not so much. He sure could tell a joke or a story that had been passed down from generation to generation. I’ll tell you one that Leonard Begley told me the other day, but I will have to change parts of it to protect the innocent.

Daddy just about always had a good squirrel dog. When we were growing up we had a wonderful dog named Queen that was not only a good squirrel dog but she was a wonderful pet for us and had us many puppies to play with as if they were our babies. Daddy always said she was the best squirrel dog he had ever had. Well, after all us kids were grown and married he had one and I really can’t remember what her name was. But, Leonard told this story on Daddy the other day. He said one day Daddy told him, “Buddy, I’ve had some good squirrel dogs in my time but this one beats ‘em all.” Leonard asked him what happened and he said, “This dog not only kills the squirrels, but she cuts them up and puts them in plastic bags and brings them home.” Come to find out someone’s freezer had quit on them up the “holler” and they had to throw out all kinds of old meat. They kept the squirrels and would fix one every now and then for that dog.

I almost forgot to mention how special it was to see two of my first cousins, Linda Sharon Adams Boggs at the rec center last week with her sister Lelah Adams Dixon. She looks so good. Lelah is there quite often but that’s the first time I had seen Linda there. We sat and talked about the good old days when we would get to play together. Sure do miss those good old days.

Speaking of cousins, one had a birthday on the 20th and even though she doesn’t like pictures, I am going to post this one of her, you can thank me later, Helen Sue Adams Hall.

Better close out for the week by asking you to be in special prayer for my pastor and his wife and family. The trial is scheduled to start in February. They desperately need our prayers.

Also remember Oma’s weekly plea. Be in church this Sunday and if your church has services throughout the week or on Sunday evening, God wants you there then, too.
