Hello everyone. I hope all of you are doing well.
I was able to go to the Seedtime on the Cumberland festival over the weekend in Whitesburg and had a good time other than the weather being just too hot.
The Cowan Community Storytelling group put on a small portion of the play “Roots and Branches” on the stage at the Appalshop Theater on Friday at 5 p.m. It went well. I hope all of you come out for the full play on June 17 and 18 at 7 p.m. at the Cowan Community Center. I think you will enjoy it.
Some of the cast members are Darrell Holbrook as Aaron; Kandi Slone as his wife, Roberta; Leigh Lewis Blakenbeckler as Reva; Alyssa Helton as her niece, Nicki; Howard Barton as Junior; Brandon Jent as his son, Spencer; Brenda Stone as a cop; Louise Fleming and myself as Dar and Ringer #1; Shelia Cornett as Ringer #2 and Alice; Greta Fields as Ringer #3 and #4; Bessie Shepherd as Radio Announcer; Kat as Bethany; Carol Ison as Director, and Debbie Ison Fields as Assistant Director. Mark Kidd and Kevin Howard are in charge of the music. Velda Fraley and Ashley Collier have been helping out where they are needed, and Fran Day had to drop out for health reasons. We miss her.
Hopefully I did not leave anyone out. If I did, I am very sorry.
The Willie and Susan Fields reunion is coming up July 2 beginning at 10 a.m. at Shelter No. 2 at the Kingdom Come State Park. Bring a covered dish and join the fun and fellowship. Hope you see you all there.
Birthdays this week are, John Simmons will be 26 on June 11; Dana Sturgill and Doug Stallard will celebrate, and Becca Fields, my beautiful middle granddaughter, will be 21, all on June 15. She has graduated from dental school and is working in a dental office. I am very proud of her. (Love you, girl.)
Carolyn Fields, Earl Lemaster, and Brett Hays will celebrate birthdays on June 16. Bill Maggard Jr. will be 49 on June 14, the same day that Marty Smith will celebrate. Happy birthday to all.
Happy anniversary to Lisa and Frank Fields, who will be married 16 years on June 13.
My dad, Jasper Fields, died 28 years ago on June 14 at the age of 70. He would be 98 years old now. I sure do miss him.
My father-in-law, Roy “Shorty” Fields, formerly of Edmonton, passed away June 13, 1985. He would be 98 now. He was a good man and is much missed.
