Many remember Jean Cornett

I hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving and plenty to eat. Bob, Hunter Banks and I had dinner at Cracker Barrel Restaurant in Nicholasville with our daughter Jessie, and also drove on down to Golden Corral Restaurant to say hi to our son-in-law Andy. Both places were full of hungry patrons.

K.P. and Lana Pridemore spent Thanksgiving in Michigan with William ‘Dee-Dee’ Stamper.

Irene Jent of Redfox, had her daughter Debbie, ‘Buck’, and Emily of Indiana, visiting during the holiday.

This Saturday will be the Christmas bazaar at Mount Olivet Church at Blackey. Everyone is welcome to come by and shop.

Sorry to learn that Jenette Adams’s sister Joyce recently died. Our thoughts are with Jenette and her family.

Also, Jean Croucher Cornett died last Wednesday. She was the daughter of the late General and Thelma Croucher and the widow of ‘Clell’ Cornett. She touched many lives during her long years of being a schoolteacher and was well known and remembered by many here in Letcher County. She was laid to rest next to her husband ‘Clell’ in the Cornett family cemetery at Blackey.

It was also a sad tragedy to hear that Gwen Whitaker of Roxana, had died in a traffic accident. We remembered her as a very nice nurse when she worked in Hazard at Dr. Gowdar and Dr. Shankar’s office. We also met two of her children who were involved in the 4-H goat program. Our sympathy goes out to her husband Mitch and their four children.

Belated birthday wishes to Tommy Harris Smith, whose birthday was Nov. 23. Benji and Danna Smith, Lillie Moss Hale and Mary Jo Blair had dinner with him at his home that day.

Don’t forget about Gwen’s Country Attic & Antiques open house on Saturday.
