Matthew Bailey is Berea College graduate

Blackey

On May 24, Matthew Bailey of Racetrack Hollow was graduated from Berea College in the top 10 percent of his class majoring in physics. He will be going on to the University of Tennessee in Knoxville to pursue his master’s degree in the fall. His parents are Wayne and Fredia Bailey, and he is the grandson of Paulene Bailey. His sister, Karen Henrikson of Carcassonne, is very proud of him and was hoping her family, husband Jonny and kids Takoa, Taylor and Jackson, would be able to attend his graduation.

I talked to Don Brown, formerly of Isom, the other day and he said his uncle, Hobert Caudill, is still in the University of Kentucky Hospital in the intensive care unit as of that time. He lives at Letcher and fell mowing his grass and cut his head. His wife, Blanche, and daughter, Donna, have been staying with him.

Donna Griffie of Letcher, has been in a hospital in Lexington. She had a staph infection and then got pneumonia but as of last week she was doing some better and was sitting up.

Sylvania Whitaker of Blair Branch, is home from a hospital in Lexington. She has lost a lot of weight and is weak, but is doing a lot better.

Happy anniversary to Bruce and Rita Gilley of Letcher. They celebrated their 28th on May 16. Happy birthday to their son, Matt Gilley. It’s on May 21.

Happy birthday to Holly Bates of Blackey. It’s on May 25.
