Former Neon resident Mavis Eileen Baker, 78, died January 10 at her home in Johnson City, Tenn.
Born in Hemphill to the late George and Delphia Meade Stewart, she was the mother of the late Jerry Paul Baker and Sandra Rae Baker and a sister of the late Paul Stewart and Lila Peach.
Mrs. Baker had been a teacher at Hemphill School, where she taught fourth and fifth grades.
Surviving are her husband, Hubert Baker; three sons, Hubert Baker Jr., and Jon Baker, both of Johnson City, Tenn., and Randy Baker of Elizabethton, Tenn.; two daughters, Deanna Etheredge and husband Rusty of Ocala, Fla., and Karen Baker of Johnson City, Tenn.; two sisters, Myrtle Ihrig of Whitesburg and Lavenna Reach of Orange Park, Fla.; and four grandchildren, Allyson Baker, Tim Baker, Sean Etheredge and Kyle Wexler.
Funeral services for Mrs. Baker were held January 14 at the Neon Church of Christ. Burial was in the Whitaker Cemetery.
