May 19 — The Mountain Heritage Festival Committee will hold a pancake and sausage breakfast with character appearances from Spider-Man, Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Supergirl, Maleficent, Mickey and Minnie, Doc McStuffins, and Lambie. Participants are invited to wear their favorite costume. The breakfast will take place from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Letcher County Extension Office in Whitesburg. The cost is $10 for children and $5 for adults. There is no cost for adults who do not eat.
May 22 — The Southeast Kentucky Chapter of the National Black Lung Association will meet at 1 p.m. at the Letcher County Health Department, 115 Madison St., Whitesburg. The meeting is open to the public and everyone is welcome to attend. Respiratory Clinics of Eastern Kentucky staff and local attorneys with experience assisting with federal black lung claims will be present to answer questions and provide information. . May 25 — A Memorial
Day celebration will be held at 1 p.m. at the Letcher County Veterans Memorial Museum. The Knott County Disabled American Veterans will fire a 21-gun salute, and the Sons of Confederate Veterans will fire a cannon. The Letcher County Central High School Band will perform.
