Letcher County has seen no more positive cases of Covid-19 in more than a week, and state numbers on Tuesday were down.
Testing is increasing, and Mountain Comprehensive Health Corporation has begun offering drive-though testing with no appointment and at no cost to the patient every day at its Whitesburg Clinic.
Gov. Andy Beshear cautioned that the numbers from the Memorial Day weekend could be artificially low because of labs being closed over the long holiday weekend.
According to figures released by the governor on Tuesday, there were 387 new cases over the three-day weekend, with 141 on May 24, 122 on May 25 and 117 on May 26.
There have now been a total of 8,951 positive results since testing began, with 151 of those listed as “probable.” Beshear said those test results may for the first time include serology testing, which looks for antibodies rather than a current illness, and if so, those numbers will be split out. A total of 193,576 tests have been conducted.
Letcher County still has four positive cases.
In the surrounding area, Perry County still has 19 confirmed cases, Knott County has 4, Harlan has 1, and Pike has 28.
The state of Virginia had a record 1,519 new cases on Monday. Wise County now has 24 cases, up two from last week, and the City of Norton still has two cases.
