MCHC teaming with UK, ARH for cardiologists; Pikeville docs still here

The Mountain Comprehensive Healthcare Corporation (MCHC) and the ARH Cardiology Associates kicked off the New Year with a new partnership that is now offering MCHC patients local access to cardiovascular care backed by the UK Gill Heart Institute.

The new arrangement means MCHC patients can now stay close to home for even the most complex cardiology care, health providers say.

“MCHC has been providing generations of patients access to quality medical care for more than 40 years and we are happy to now offer our patients advanced cardiology services through our affiliation with the ARH Cardiology Associates and the UK Gill Heart Institute,” said Dr. Van Breeding, MCHC Director of Clinical Affairs.

ARH and UK Health- Care’s Gill Heart Institute joined forces last year in a collaboration aimed at improving access to patientcentered care and creating an extension of the Gill Heart Institute into the region. It also provides patients access to UK’s comprehensive cardiovascular expertise and resources while maintaining the familiarity of community health care providers.

“ARH is proud to be extending our cardiac services into the MCHC family. This partnership builds upon the solid foundation of quality healthcare services already available in Letcher County,” said Joe Grossman, ARH President and CEO. “By joining together we are able to extend even further our residents’ ability to receive exceptional care from some of the most skilled and extensively trained physicians without having to incur the financial and logistical burden of traveling out of the area.”

In addition to Letcher County, MCHC operates in Harlan, Perry, and Owsley counties and has been in operation since June 1971. It is a non-profit corporation.

Until this month, MCHC had been working with cardiologists at the Pikeville Medical Center. In the wake of the MCHC-UK Gill- ARH announcement, the Pikeville hospital said it has opened its own specialty clinic in cardiology on Main Street in Whitesburg, across from the old Dawahare’s Dept. Store location.

The Pikeville-operated clinic will be staffed by Pikeville cardiologists Jose L. Velazquez and Denzil A. Harris.
