Mechanical problem caused accident that killed man, 40

Funeral services were held Tuesday for a Burdine man who was killed last week when his car struck another vehicle and overturned.

Danny E. Addington, 40, was traveling east on Hwy. 805 last Thursday when he lost control of his car and hit a car driven by Angela Lockhart. Addington’s vehicle overturned and came to rest on the roadway. A Jenkins police officer said he believes Addington’s car had a mechanical malfunction, causing him to lose control of it.

Addington was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident by the Letcher County Coroner’s Office. Lockhart was transported to Jenkins Community Hospital where she was treated for minor injuries.

Kentucky State Trooper Brandon Thomas is investigating.

Funeral services were held at the New Freedom Worship Center. Burial was in the Addington Cemetery at South Mountain, Va.

Born in Letcher County, he was a son of the late Clarence and Anna Johnson Addington.

He is survived by a daughter, Alison Addington, Whitesburg; two
