Memorial, reunion are set at Blair Branch cemetery

Bardstown

On Sunday, Sept. 6, there will be a memorial and reunion at the Johnny Blair- Henry Adams Cemetery on the left-hand fork of Blair Branch. Church will begin at 9:30 a.m. There will be a potluck dinner and reunion immediately following. Lovell Blair, Ila Adams, Mae Blair, and Minnie Blair are the surviving children of Johnny and Polly Blair. They and their families host the get-together. Come out and share your family memories. You are sure to hear the gospel, have a full stomach, and thoroughly enjoy yourself. Maybe we will even play a few games of washers.

It seems like recently we have had a lot illness in our family and surrounding community. My mother, Sylvania Blair-Whitaker, had a kidney transplant in 2002. We are so thankful she has been blessed to keep her kidney as long as she has. She sure has had a rough time recently, but we count our blessings every day that she is able to stay off of dialysis due to the rejection she has been going through.

My grandmother, Lucy Blair, has also been ill recently. She spent two weeks in Whitesburg Hospital at the end of July. She was able to come home the day of our annual Halcomb-Blair family reunion at Cowan Community Center on August 1. We were so excited that she was able to attend the reunion for a little while. We really enjoy those visits from family who live out of town. It’s nice to see them, even if it is just once a year.

Grandma Lucy is doing some better now, but she is still weak. We are thankful that her daughter, Mattie Blair-Adams, has been able to come in and spend the entire month of August with her. Jake and Wilma Halcomb are both in poor health. Wilma recently joined the Dixon Memorial Church and was baptized on August 23. Howard Owens, Homer Smith, David Jent, Earl Combs and her brothers Allen D., Roger, and Rulah Whitaker assisted with the baptism. The family sends many thanks to Letcher Fire and Rescue and Hospice for all they did.

I would like to wish a happy birthday to Kory Webb. We celebrated his sixth birthday on Friday, at the Whitesburg public swimming pool. Kory is the son of Chalena Whitaker- Webb of Premium, and C.D. Webb of Mayking. He is the grandson of Roger and Deborah Whitaker of Premium.

Michael and I had a small family birthday party for our boys on August 22 here at our home. We had a really nice time. Dalton Maddix was 4 years old on July 19 and Bailey McKenzie turned 8 years old on August 21.

Ila Adams will be welcoming a new great-grandchild soon. The families of Jocelyn and Dennis Watts had a baby shower for them on August 2 at the Blair Branch Church. They are expecting a baby boy. Jocelyn is the daughter of Rame and Lynn Adams. I would like to wish them the best of luck.

I hope that everyone has a happy and healthy week.
