Merlis Adkins dies at 64



Funeral services for Merlis V. Adkins, 64, will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow (Thursday) at the Missionary Baptist Church in Jeremiah. Burial will be in the Adkins family cemetery at Isom.

Born in Isom to the late George and Helen Adkins, he died May 15 at his home at Nancy. He was a brother of the late Jean Hoey, Daralene Caudill, Billy C. Adkins, Roe B. Adkins and Basil Duel Adkins.

He was a U.S. Army veteran and had served in the Korean and Viet Nam wars, was graduated from Whitesburg High School, had worked as a heavy equipment operator for Kannan Mining Company, and was member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church in Nancy.

Surviving are his wife, Alma Couch Adkins; a son, Brian Keith Adkins of Isom; two grandchildren, Erica Jade Meade of Cornettsville and Kevin Lee Adkins of Whitesburg; three sisters, Reba Cavins and husband Jim, Dayton, Oh., Maralena Adkins, Ponte Vedra, Fla., and Marcia Adkins, Clearwater, Fla.; and two brothers, Darlis Von Adkins, Maryville, Tenn., and Larry D. Adkins, Spring Hill, Fla.
