Mike Fields retires as others are laid off

Big Cowan

Today (Wednesday) is my daughter-in-law’s birthday. Happy birthday, Amber, and may it be a good one.

Prayer list for this week: Charlie Miles has been in the hospital for pneumonia; Sam Fields has been in the hospital for pneumonia and congestive heart failure; Glenn Ratliff has been in the hospital for pneumonia; Vivian Adams has been in the hospital for congestive heart failure; Charlie Adams went through open-heart surgery, but still needs our prayers; Christine Fields has had a bad cold and sinus problems; James Fields has had a bad cold and sinus problems; Kathy, Ed and Thomas Wolfe have financial problems and are in dire need of a good used car at a reasonable price.

My husband, Mike, and I were in Indiana for his final day of retirement. He was presented with another nice plaque from Delta Faucet, and they had a party for him. Seems like he is leaving at a good time; they laid off a lot of salaried people, including his boss. Things are looking bad everywhere. My son, Chad, is down to three days a week at Cummins Fuel Injection Plant.

While in Indiana, we got our taxes filed, and saw our son, Chad, and his wife, Amber, and our three granddaughters, the old man Bill Maggard and his wife, Agnes, and daughter, Anna, and Audrey and Charles Hammonds.

I was glad to see all of them, but glad to be back in the hills of home. Pray that our new president can straighten up this economy.

Heather Day and Dwight Griffey were married on Feb. 13 by Dock Frazier, and are honeymooning in Gatlinburg, Tenn. Congrats to them both.

She has a daughter, Paige Brown, and he has a son, Hunter Griffey.

My uncle, Isom Fields, called from Morristown, Tenn., with some news:

“Damon Day of Cumberland passed away recently from a massive heart attack. He was formerly married to my cousin, Mary, the daughter of the late Leva and Robert Fields. Mary is also sick and needs our prayers.

“Nancy’s daughter, Sarah, had a second heart attack. We wish her a speedy recovery, and my cousin, Larry Wayne Boggs and his wife, Shelia, lost a stepson to Larry and a son to Shelia. His name was James Gordon Lewis, and our sympathy goes to the family.

“Thomas Wolfe moved to Knott County, and I hope he likes it there.”

Melissa Daniel also has been very sick with sinus and allergy problems. She and Mike are moving to their new place.

Until next week, attend a church of your choice, and pray for those who spitefully use you.
