The Letcher County Board of Education elected its officers for the coming year this week, moving Board Member Mindy Boggs into the position of chairwoman.
Boggs replaces Wi l l Smith, who made clear at the beginning of the meeting that he would like someone else to move into the position he has held for 20 of his 28 years on the board. Smith, a retired social worker, had been chairman of the board for the past seven years straight.
Boggs, a medical assistant, has been on the board for eight years.
Board Member Robert Kiser, who served as chairman his first year on the board eight years ago, was elected vice chairman.
The board chooses officers at its first meeting in January each year.
Board members received plaques for their years of service at the beginning of the meeting, which was held Monday night at the Lindell Smith Board Room. Only the board and department heads were present in person. The meeting was broadcast live on YouTube because of the COVID-19.
