Yellowjackets drub Combs; avenge loss

Last Friday evening the Whitesburg High School Yellowjackets avenged an earlier season loss by dropping 54th district power Dilce Combs at the local gym. The Jackets whipped their foe by overcoming a halftime deficit of two points and later came back, midway in the third frame, to take the lead 33-30. The Yellowjackets’ defensive tactics were superb as they held the high-scoring Panthers to a minimum. The Burtonmen were paced by forward Charlie Hall and outstanding rebounder for the Jackets Sydney Blair, each with 12, while Begley threw in 15 for the losing Panthers.

In a slow starting first period, the Jackets collected only seven to their opposition’s 17. In the second farce, the Jackets tallied eight to the Panthers’ none. Halftime score 17-15. In the third canto, the Jackets rallied and took the lead at the end of the third period, 28-24. In the final stanza, each team collected 16 points to make the final score, 44-40.
