WHS Class of 1952

Motto, “Able and Willing”; class flower, white rose; class colors, purple and white; class officers, President Allene Sumper, Vice-President Eddie Collins, Secretary-Treasurer Ruth York. Valedictorian Drucilla Day; Salutatorian, Janet Combs; class sponsors, Vera Raleigh, Edgar Banks, Bonnie Day.

Senior basketball: Eddie Collins, Carroll Sexton, Jimmy Bert Tolliver and Jim Whitaker. Jimmy Bert Tolliver was 1st Team All State in 1951; Carroll Sexton was 2nd Team All State; Eddie Collins, Tolliver and Sexton were All Regional runnerup, Hazard won by 3 points.

Football seniors: Doug Polly, Jack Fairchild, Jimmy Bert Tolliver, Jimmy Wampler, Eddie Collins and Bobby Combs. Yellowjackets won the Big Sandy Conference. They also won an after season game with Virginia’s counterpart to the Big Sandy Conference.

Cheerleaders were Jan Combs, Shirley Fields, Carolyn Minton, and Katherine Auton.

The 1952 managers were Pee Wee Back, Maurice Blair, Elwood Hall. Coaches, Ray Pigman, Ed Moore and Pop Enlow.
