The director of Mountain Montessori Preschool announced that the school will reopen in 2012.
After taking a break in 2011, the private, parent-run, non-profit organization will have a re-grand opening Jan. 2 at its Whitesburg location.
“I’m thrilled to be back,” said Anne Leslie Hissom, director of Mountain Montessori. “The goal is I want Montessori to be there forever.”
At Mountain Montessori, teaching techniques allow children to learn in their own way and pace, with the main concept being to promote the joy of learning.
Debra Fields, who has 30 years experience as a certified educator with the Letcher County school system, will be teaching art at the school. Fields said she will carry her mission at her art studio, Creekside Studio, to Mountain Montessori, which is to offer tools and freedoms for students to learn in their own styles.
“Our vision is the same basically and I think we are going to work well together and be successful,” said Fields.
Callie Horn, a recent graduate of Transylvania University in Lexington, will also be employed at Mountain Montessori. Horn attended the school as a preschooler.
“Callie is going to be an asset to our school,” said Fields.
Mountain Montessori targets children ages two and a half years old to six years old. Cost is $435 a month for full-time students (8 a.m. until 5 p.m., five days a week) and $325 a month for part-time students (8 a.m. until 1 p.m., five days a week).
