WHITESBURG WEATHER

Month of October is filled with birthdays

Northeast Ohio

Howdy y’all, are you staying warm? It’s a cold windy day here, supposed to get up to about 56. It sure ain’t my kind of weather but I’ll take and say as little as I can about it; guess a brrr now and then won’t hurt.

I saw and talked to Georgia. All are doing well except Georgia and her blood pressure, which is still going crazy, up one day, down the next. There’s gotta be a reason but so far it has eluded the doctors.

Would you believe I’ve almost finished another baby quilt? I have about three more put together and may finish them before I start working on a big one. Most I have ready to start on are queen size.

Before I forget, I want to wish the following a happy October birthday. Some are going to be late and for that I apologize. On the 2nd, Kristin Resor of Wellington, Ohio (she’s stepgranddaughter of Richard and Georgia); on the 5th, son-in-law of Carleta and Creighton Adams, Marty Sturgill in Eolia; on the 6th, Thelma Campbell Watts in Kingsport, Tenn.; on the 9th, our granddaughter in Elyria, Ohio, Jennifer; on the 10th, brother Richard Ray Sergent in Lorain, Ohio; on the 11th, Billy Resor in Wellington, Ohio (father of Kristin); on the 22nd, grandson Chris Engle in Elyria, Ohio; on the 26th, our great-granddaughter, Anna in Louisville and sister in-law Delores Engle in Jenkins. To any and all who are celebrating a birthday or anniversary this month, may your day be special and may you celebrate for many, many years.

How sad it is to grow old, not that I am (oh yeah!), and lose so many friends, just like the two I lost last week. I met Joanne Stallard after Red’s niece Lena married her son, the late Troy Stallard, and Ruby Meade I had known for years. She grew up in the Deane area, which was just across the hill from Indian Creek where I grew up. I worked with her daughter who went to Clearview High School with our sons, and we have known her brother, Denver, for several years. We go to church with him. He’s an ordained minister at Little Edna.

Our furnace is on and does it ever feel warm and cozy which is making me feel drowsy. I took a break and fixed us some fried ‘taters, mustard greens and cornbread, also baked an angel food cake; my sweet tooth was out of control. Red doesn’t really eat a lot of cake, some angel food, some pineapple-upside down and a lot of stack cake. I made up my mind to one thing though, next time I want angel food cake I plan to buy one of those mixes where all you do is add water and bake.

Red talked to his sister, Jean. I do believe she’s glad to be home. I like to go but once I’ve seen and done everything I planned, I’m ready to head for home.

I can hardly believe how fast the months go by. First thing you know Thanksgiving will be here and following close behind is Christmas. Already the stores are displaying Christmas items along with anything one would want for Halloween.

So far I haven’t made any definite plans for Christmas. I think I will leave it up to the family to decide if they want to stop by here or just spend Christmas at home with their families.

Red and I went to Little Edna Church Sunday. It’s on the fourth weekend. They didn’t have a huge crowd but as usual a good meeting. We did miss seeing one special sweet smiling face, Sarah Justice. She fell downstairs and was hurt pretty badly. She is now on oxygen 24/7 and someone is with her about all the time. She and Hobart are both in their late 80s. Hobart looked so tired, which I am sure he is, and also very worried.

Are there enough dried leaves down Letcher County way to crackle when one walks on them? Course I know leaves are just now putting on their coat of many colors. They are turning fast here and beginning to fall.

This weekend being the first will be church at Pleasant View in Litchfield, Ohio. I’m not sure we’ll get to go, it all depends on how Red is feeling. If we do go, we will miss Steve and Joan Slone of Wakeman, Ohio, who will be going to Antioch Church in Louisville, which is Steve’s home church. Such a nice young couple.

I got to see my cousin, Inez Critser of Wakeman, Ohio, at Little Edna. She had a pretty bad summer, lost her garden twice to heavy rains, then stepped on a nail, but even with all that she was very upbeat. She and I share great-grandparents, Chuck and Polly Ann Craft.

My private secretary will be here soon to pick up this important document so will I say so long for now, stay warm, stay well and love, prayers and peace to all.
