Motorcycle crash near Pine Mountain kills 20-year-old man

A Sandlick man died Sunday after police said he lost control of his motorcycle while traveling on US 119 South near Pine Mountain Junction.

Jordan Shane Sexton, 20, was operating his motorcycle at a high rate of speed up an incline when he lost control of his 2003 Honda CBR 600 motorcycle around 4:30 p.m. on May 20, according to Lieutenant M.K. Terry of the Letcher County Sheriff’s Department. Terry said Sexton crossed into the northbound lane and onto the northbound shoulder, striking a wooden outbuilding located on residential property.

Letcher County Coroner John Cornett pronounced Sexton dead at the scene. Police said Sexton was wearing a helmet.

Terry said the sheriff’s department will be increasing patrols on Pine Mountain because of the number of complaints received about motorcycles operating at a high rate of speed on US 119.

Sexton was the son of Shane and Lisa Watts Sexton of Sandlick.

Surviving in addition to his parents are a sister, Meghan Nashae Sexton of Sandlick; a grandmother, Lorene Sexton of Sandlick; and a great-grandfather, Lenville Sexton of Sandlick.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today (Wednesday) at Calvary Temple Church. Burial will follow at the Hobert Richardson Cemetery in Whitesburg.
