Mountain Heritage Festival releases schedule for the 30th time since inception

Event ranked among state’s Top Ten for 2012

The Mountain Heritage Festival has been recognized by Kentucky Travel Industry Association (KTIA) as a top ten festivals or events for fall 2012.

Saturday, September 22

Mountain Mudder 2012

The 5K Team Based Obstacle Course will start at 9 a.m. at the old Whitesburg High School hill. Pre-registration required. Cost is $25 per person, which includes an event shirt. Mountain Heritage Dog Show

Registration is at 1:30 p.m. and the dog show begins at 2 p.m. at River Park in Whitesburg. Admission is free. Entry fee is $3 per category. There are five categories. All dogs welcome. Bring water for your dog. Contact Lois Shortt at 606-633-5212.

Poetry, essay and poster contest

The theme is celebrating 30 years: a tribute to the past, commitment to a better future. Deadline to enter poetry, essay and poster contests is noon. Take entries to the Harry M. Caudill Memorial Library. Winning entries will be displayed in the library. Contact Legina Adams at 633-7547 or Angie Mullins at 633-5652.

Quilt show, canning and baking contest, woodworking, candy, recycled items, Christmas ornaments and holiday decorations, arts and crafts entries
