Joyce Ann Sergent, 84, died July 20 at her home in Deane.
Born in Letcher County, she was a daughter of the late Luther and Edith Ash Hall. She was also preceded in death by a son, Randy Sergent; a daughter-in-law, Shelby Sergent; a grandson, Randy Nathaniel Sergent; and two brothers, Delmar Hall and Dennis Hall.
She was a member of the Hemphill Baptist Church for many years and enjoyed being the song leader.
Mrs. Sergent was known for her baking skills, especially her cream pies and peanut butter roll candy. She made them quite often and shared them with everyone who she could think of.
Surviving are her husband of 63 years, Arthur Sergent; a daughter, Dianna Holbrook and husband Dwight of Jenkins; three grandchildren, Matthew B. Sergent and wife Gracie of Long Fork, Kamista Hall and husband Jeremy of Salt Lick, and Eric Holbrook and wife Brooke of Jenkins; seven great-grandchildren, Chrissy, Emma, Gunner, Kelsi, Abbey, Tyson and Baylee (Sugar Doll); four brothers, Elmer Hall and wife Alice of Louisville, Melvin Hall of Deane, Leslie Hall of Kona, and Douglas Hall and wife Gerri of Stockbridge, Ga.; and a special niece and caregiver, Jessica Slone.
Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. today (Wednesday July 24) at the Hemphill Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Hall Cemetery in Deane.
