Mushroom hunter finds stolen cars at Sandlick

A man hunting for morel mushrooms, or dryland fish, found two cars stolen from a downtown Whitesburg car lot at Sandlick Gap.

The two cars, a Pontiac Formula and a Chevrolet Camaro, as well as all of the keys to the remaining cars on the lot, were stolen from Sexton’s Used Cars, located next to Dairy Queen, last Thursday night.

Whitesburg Police Chief Tyrone Fields said car lot owner Billy Sexton found all of the missing keys except five. They keys had been thrown over a hillside and in tree branches on Sandlick Mountain.
