Music, arts festival is bigger, better

The Agrestic Music and Arts Festival is back. The format has changed some from last year’s event and instead of an all-day concert, this time it will be a two-day event.

“It’s much, much bigger,” said Malinda Hull, one of the event organizers.

Festivities will begin at 3 p.m. on May 31 at River Park in Whitesburg. Folk Soul Revival is the headliner for Friday night and Sundy Best is the headliner for Saturday night.

A silent auction will start at 11 a.m. on June 1 and will end at 6 p.m. An autism walk will start at 1 p.m. on Saturday.

People don’t have to pay cost of admission until 3 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Cost is $5 from 3 to 6 p.m. and $10 after 6 p.m. Children 10 and under get in free.

Event T-shirts and twoday passes are available for sale at StreetSide Grill and Bar, Here Comes the Bun, Summit City, Mountain Comprehensive Health Care (Carrie Hall), Appalachian Regional Hospital (Todd Hall and Ashley Sexton), Isom Community Pharmacy and Breeding’s Plumbing and Electric. The two-day passes and T-shirts are $15 each.

Spider-Man, Sponge- Bob SquarePants and Elmo characters will be at the park beginning at 1 p.m. on Saturday.

Vendors and food booths will be set up both days.

The festival was created by A.C.A.M. Productions, a non-profit organization created by Ashley Sexton, her husband Cody Sexton, Cody Sexton’s brother Adam Sexton and Adam Sexton’s girlfriend Malinda Hull.

Last year, proceeds totaling $7,000 were donated to the structured classroom for autistic children located at West Whitesburg Elementary School.

Proceeds from this weekend’s festival will be donated to the Letcher County Autism Support Group.

“We expect to have a good time and raise money for a great cause,” said Hull. “We hope to have the community’s support behind us.”
