Nelson Donald Froste, 89, dies

Nelson Donald Froste, 82, of Whitesburg, died February 10 at the Veterans Center in Hazard.

Born in Letcher County, he was a son of the late Joseph Bascum and Rachel Froste. He was married to the late Opal Siegriest Jones.

Froste was a 1942 graduate of Whitesburg High School and a Navy veteran of World War II where he was a pharmacist mate. He attended Pikeville College and was graduated from the Kentucky School of Embalming in 1948. He was an accountant for Ashland Oil Company and had earlier worked at Craft Funeral Home and as a sales representative for Alber’s Drug Company of Knoxville, Tenn.

He was a member of the Millstone Missionary Baptist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Sueellen McNassar, Chicago; a son, Phillip Donald Froste, Greensboro, N.C.; three stepchildren; three grandchildren, Jack McNassar, Paul McNassar, and Rachel Frank; a great-grandchild, Tobias Frank; and cousins Jerry Blair, Glen Polly, Ralph Polly, and Norma Collins Thompson.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today (Wednesday) at Letcher Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Hop Gibson Cemetery at Little Cowan.
