In an update on planned work on the Highway 805 Bridge at Neon Junction, Sara George, Information Officer for District 12 of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, told The Mountain Eagle that the bridge will not be widened. Instead, the bridge is scheduled for a comprehensive rehabilitation with all the superstructure and all beams being replaced at a cost of $600,000.
In an e-mail, George wrote that the bridge is among 102 structures in Kentucky being rehabilitated or replaced under a Design Build Contract between the Transportation Cabinet and two contractors, Bush and Burchett of Allen, Kentucky, and Hayden Bridge Company. Bush and Burchett will do the work on the Highway 805 Bridge.
Before the work begins, Bush and Burchett will build a traffic detour around the bridge and work on the bridge will not cause traffic delays. George said that work will begin sometime in the spring. The date for work to begin has not been set.
