Neon man facing gun, drug charges

A Fleming-Neon man is facing weapons and drug charges after a domestic violence complaint at his home.

Jeffrey L. Craft, 62, of 82 Henry Hutton Lane, is charged with first-degree wanton endangerment, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, first-degree possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), and fourth-degree assault.

According to a citation issued by Deputy Seth Whitaker, the sheriff’s department was called to the home for a domestic violence incident, and as Whitaker was walking to the front door he said he heard a man and woman arguing, and heard the man threaten to kill the woman. He said he then heard what sounded like someone being hit.

Whitaker wrote that when he entered the home, he arrested Craft and handcuffed him, and then found a small bag of a substance believed to be methamphetamine. Whitaker said the woman told him she had left the house and gone down the road to get help, but Craft had followed her with a shotgun and forced her to go back to the house by threatening to shoot her and hitting her with the gun. Whitaker wrote that the woman told him Craft was choking her when he arrived at the scene.

The woman showed Whitaker where to find the shotgun, and he charged Craft with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon because the house belongs to Craft.
