Neon man held in meth case

The Letcher County Sheriff ’s Office says it confiscated at least eight grams of methamphetamine from a Neon man after a resident reported a suspicious person at McRoberts.

According to the citation, a resident reported a man was stealing things at Tom Biggs Hollow shortly before midnight on Thursday. When Deputy Seth Whitaker arrived, he stopped Jake Tyler Smith, 24, of 42 Seals Dr., walking along the road, and began talking to him.

During the conversation, he asked if he could search Smith’s bag, and in doing so found multiple pipes with residue in them, and a purple cat-design pouch with a bag containing a crystalline substance that Whitaker believed to be methamphetamine, the citation says.

Smith was arrested and charged with first-degree possession of a controlled substance (meth), and possession of drug paraphernalia, and was lodged in the Letcher County Jail.

Sheriff Mickey Stines said the substance confiscated weighed between eight and ten grams.
