Neon resident Ethel Harris dies at 106


Ethel Harris, 106, of Fleming-Neon, died February 6 at Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital.

Born in Matewan, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Will and Emma Brown Stamps and the widow of Theodore Harris.

She was also preceded in death by a son, Jimmy Slone.

Mrs. Harris lived most of her life in Letcher County and was a member of the Corinth Baptist Church of Fleming.

Surviving are three sons, Eugene Slone of Lexington, Chester Slone of Winchester, and Jerry Sloan of Estero, Fla., and two grandchildren, Megan and Kerra.

Funeral services were held February 10 at Carty Funeral Home in Neon. Burial was in the Fleming Cemetery.
