Nerlens Noel visits Whitesburg

Kaci McCown, a fourth grade student at West Whitesburg Elementary School, was all smiles last Friday when Nerlens Noel, a UK power forward predicted by many to be the No. 1 pick when the NBA holds its professional basketball draft this summer, autographed her arm after addressing students in the Whitesburg Middle School Gymnasium. In a question and answer session April 23 with Louisville Courier-Journal sports reporter Kyle Tucker, Noel, who has become known for his kindness to children, said “it wasn’t too long ago when I was one of these little kids that looked up to somebody as a role model. When I would see someone that I looked up to, maybe I would’ve wanted him to say hi to me or come to visit me. That’s the way I look at it. You try to give back to kids who aren’t as fortunate as myself.” (Photo by Sally Barto)
