Breaking News: Two dead at Cowan

New clinic is opening Jan. 2 in old motel, hospital says

Pikeville Medical Center’s new “Specialty Clinic at Whitesburg” will open to patients January 2 — a month ahead of schedule.

The anticipated opening date was planned for February, but hospital officials said the construction crew was able to finish ahead of schedule. The clinic, which is located in the old Super 8 motel building in West Whitesburg, provides services for neurology, cardiology, vascular and electrophysiology.

“We understand it can be challenging to go out and find health care,” said Lorri Burgess, director of the PMC Heart and Vascular Institute. “The process of traveling for health care means extra time and money. When patients are sick, the last thing they want to do is travel. As an organization, we are committed to going out to our patients whenever feasible.”

The location of the new clinic, at 107 Medical Plaza Lane, Whitesburg, replaces PMC’s Main Street location, where specialists were seeing as many as 600 patients in a single month.

The new location, which was announced in November, will feature front door parking and room for expansion when needed. The clinic will continue to provide in-house diagnostic studies, full cardiac diagnostic services and same day appointments, whenever possible, to prevent the need for additional patient travel.

The renovation process has “created a beautiful, pristine environment for patients,” PMC officials say. The cost of renovating the building was $877,000.

“We will be occupying the first floor with newly remodeled exam rooms,” Burgess said.

As the clinic continues to add new services and providers, the plan is to expand the clinic space to the second floor.

“As the demand continues to grow, we are committed to growing our services and bringing even more convenience to our patients in and around the Whitesburg area,” said Burgess.

Burgess said the clinic’s staff and physicians will strive to treat each and every patient just like family.

“Anytime someone experiences symptoms of a heart attack, do not wait. Seek medical attention as soon as possible,” she said. “Time is muscle.”

Miracle Brace continues as the clinical manager.
