Letcher County will soon be home to a third Family Dollar Store and is apparently being considered as a location by the nation’s largest aftermarket auto parts provider.
The newest Family Dollar Store will be located at Isom, on the south side of Kentucky 15 near road’s intersection with Isom Drive.
A lease between Franklin Properties of Tennessee and Family Dollar Stores of Kentucky says a lot formerly owned by Hoover H. Halcomb and Josephine Halcomb will be the new home of an 8,400 square foot building that will house a Family Dollar location. The chain currently operates stores at Whitesburg and Jenkins.
Advance Auto Parts Inc. of Roanoke, Va., apparently is considering opening a Whitesburg store on lots recently purchased from the Whitesburg VFW Post 5829.
According to a deed for the property, located near Pine Mountain Junction, the VFW Club sold five small lots and parts of a sixth to JMB Investment Company of Knoxville, Tennessee for $125,000.
Advance Auto currently oper- ates 5,289 stores across the nation. JMB has negotiated deals in other towns and cities for Advance Auto.
Meanwhile, less than two weeks after Dollar General Store was spurned by Family Dollar in its takeover bid against rival Dollar Tree, Dollar General has raised its offering price to $9.1 billion, Michael de la Merced reports for The New York Times.
In July, Dollar Tree offered $8.5 billion to purchase Family Dollar. Last month Dollar General responded with an offer of $8.9 billion, but that offer was rejected, with Family Dollar citing antitrust issues.
