Roadside Theater/Appalshop will present a reading of a new play script, “The Future of Letcher County,” on Saturday, June 3, at 12 p.m. in the Appalshop Theater in Whitesburg. Admission is free. Directly following the performance there will be an exchange with the audience — an opportunity to tell personal stories.
Roadside’s Donna Porterfield says, “As we know, Letcher County people are wonderful storytellers, and the play is a weaving of their stories — funny, sad, and often surprising.”
“The Future of Letcher County” will be performed by Tommy Anderson, Nell Fields, Dustin Hall, Bill Meade, and Elizabeth Sanders, all of Kentucky.
The play was written by Roadside Theater from stories gathered over a year’s time. The event is a collaboration with the Letcher County Culture Hub, and one part of Appalshop’s 31st Seedtime on the Cumberland Festival (www.seedtimefestival.org).
