Pikeville Medical Center will soon be the only hospital in the world with two 320-Slice CT Scanners, the fastest, most accurate scanner available.

Before installation of the first new scanner, PMC‘s most advanced scanner was the 64 Slice CT Scanner, a level of technology that few hospitals can offer even now.

“The 320-Slice CT Scanner dramatically reduces the time a patient spends in the scanner.” said Walter E. May, PMC President & CEO “For our patients, detecting and treating disease and injury at its earliest stages can significantly improve their quality of life. This multimillion dollar investment keeps Pikeville Medical Center on the technological cutting edge.

The new scanner can image an entire organ, such as the heart or brain, in a single rotation or less than one second. This becomes very important when a critically ill patient has to lie still. A great scan can be achieved in less than a single heart beat. The previous scanner would have had to rotate several times and might have taken minutes to capture the same image. The new scanner also has the ability to do full body scans in only 10 seconds.
