Kentucky Transportation Cabinet officials are asking people to not park on Whitesburg streets during evening hours for the remainder of the week.
Milling, paving, and sidewalk improvements start today (Wednesday) in Whitesburg from the intersection of KY 2034 at mile point 0.105 to KY 931 at mile point 2.70.
“On the first three evenings the contractor will be milling and resurfacing through the town of Whitesburg starting at 6 p.m.,” said Greg Tackett of Highway District 12’s Letcher County office. “During this time, we ask that people not park on the city streets after 5:30 p.m. where sidewalks are located. We will be milling up the old pavement and resurfacing from sidewalk to sidewalk.”
Tackett said that after the two-mile section is finished, all other work will be during daytime hours. According to the contractor, Mountain Enterprises, the project may take up to three weeks to complete, depending on weather and any other unforeseen issues.
“We really appreciate everyone’s cooperation,” said Tackett. “We are just trying to make improvements to the streets and roads we all use every day. The temporary inconvenience is worth the gain in safety and appearance.”
