Now here’s a tip

• Go Green Tip: Take a bicycle ride. Get a basket for your bike or carry a backpack and utilize shops close to home. If you live too far to bike, make sure you combine errands. Plot destinations to minimize driving time.

• “I keep a small tub next to the kitchen sink. I catch water in it when rinsing veggies and then use that water in the garden. Nothing is wasted.” — I.L. in Mississippi

• “My fave kitchen utensil is a pizza cutter. You can use it to cut sandwiches as well as pizza. You also can use it when you are chopping veggies, like peppers, onions, tomatoes, etc. Cut them into strips and then run the pizza cutter over them to dice. I find new uses for it all the time.” — E.G. in Oregon

• “My daughters love stuffed animals, but they don’t play with them all the time and keep them up on a shelf (they aren’t ready to let go just yet). We throw them in the clothes dryer every so often to shake the dust off of them, and we can do a lot at a time.” — T. in N ew York

• For a fun outdoor art activity, try painting with shaving cream. Fill several cups with a dollop of shaving cream and add a drop or two of food coloring to each. Stir and enjoy. It’s easy and cheap, plus it cleans up with a garden hose.

• “My husband bought a very large cooler at a garage sale at a great price. Unfortunately, it was quite musty inside. We cleaned the insides with vinegar and then stuffed it full of crinkled-up newspaper. After two days of changing the paper, it smells brand new inside. What a deal!” — D.D.H. in South Carolina
