Whitesburg Fi re Chief Perry Fowler said the city has had a rash of residents burning outdoors during times that it is illegal to do so.
The fall fire season is in effect, and it is illegal to burn outdoors between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. within 150 feet of a woodland. Fowler said that applies inside the city as well as outside.
He said he has given warnings to several people so far, and state Division of Forestry personnel are writing tickets.
The fall fire season runs from October 1 until December 15.
