Old-time country dinner planned

There will be an old-time country dinner at the Letcher County Extension Office on Wednesday, Sept. 26, which is Whitesburg Day of the Mountain Heritage Festival. The meal will be $5 per person and will be served from 11 a.m. till 2 p.m.

The menu will be soup beans, kraut and wieners, cornbread, desserts and drinks. Extension Homemakers and participants in the University of Kentucky’s Ovarian Cancer Screening Program will sponsor this dinner. All funds raised will go to the free screening program, which now includes 188 local women.

A bake sale will also be held that morning beginning at 8:30 a.m. For the dinner, carry-out is available, and some limited delivery around Whitesburg. Call 633-2362 to place your order. You can also call that number to find out more about the screening program. September is National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month.
