Oliver dies at 77




Funeral services for George Washington Oliver, 77, of Jenkins, will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow (Thursday) at the Seco Freewill Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Laurel Fork Cemetery.

Born in Marietta, Ohio, he was a son of the late Oscar William and Freda Hazel Bonney Oliver. He died March 8 at Huntington, W.Va., Veterans Administration Hospital.

Oliver was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a carpenter, and did both residential and commercial work. He was a brother of the late Charles Oliver and Robert W. Oliver.

Surviving are his wife, Ruby Burton Oliver; five daughters, Shirley Kirchner, Indiana; Karen Adams and Kandy Hricik, both of Ohio; Sharon White and Sherry Avery, both of Georgia; four sons, Hubert Sexton and Gary Sexton, both of Georgetown; James Oliver, Whitesburg; and Charles Oliver, Jenkins; 12 grandchildren and 18 greatgrandchildren; five sisters, Mary Humphries and Ethel Cummings, both of Indiana; Ruth Smith, Kathryn Hites, and Jackueline Reid, all of Ohio; and four brothers, Norman Oliver, California; John Oliver, Arkansas; James Oliver, North Carolina; and Ronnie Oliver, Ohio.
