Hello everyone. I hope you are all doing well.
This has been a very busy week for me. I have been having to do a lot of things to get ready to go to Georgetown on Thursday, so I’ll try to get a little news.
I got a call from Rose Ballard telling me Shirley (Niece) Wells had died. She was one of our Marlowe kids, who kept in touch with all of us and it was a big shock to us. She and her sister Minnie Mayes visited me last year and I was glad to see them and hoped they would come again. I think they were going to come in for Mountain Heritage. She will surely be missed by all of us, especially her Facebook friends.
I think we had the best Easter, sunrise service and the regular Sunday service and egg hunt, we have ever had, full house and I’ve never seen as many beautiful children in my life.
I appreciate all my friends who called to tell me about Shirley Wells dying. Minnie Mayes, Dorthy Tacket, Bertha (Page) Dye and Rose Ballard all called within two hours.
My niece, Gabrielle Adams, has been in Whitesburg Hospital with some complications. I hope she is all right. My brother, Hubert Howard, had surgery at Pikeville Hospital and it was a rough surgery. He was admitted to the hospital there, I hope not for long. It was a leg problem.
I appreciate Sis. Shelby Feltner dedicating a song for me on the Beattyville TV station. Her daughter and husband and others make up the group Heaven’s Jubilee. They are a good group.
Bro. Jamie Niece and Bro. Caleb Howard sure did some good preaching on Easter sunrise. Bro. Jamie preached outstanding and so did Bro. Caleb Howard on the evening service. We are so proud of our young people. With all the drinking and drugs these days, we are glad they have found a better way.
We have so many people with health problems that are in need of prayer, Hazel Ison, Shirley and Carfa Niece, Kathleen and Ernest Brock, Hubert Howard, Sonia Fields and many more.
I really appreciated Doyle Day calling and asking about my brother Hubert. He’s had a lot of pain. I’m not sure how long he will have to stay in Pikeville Hospital. I hope not long. I hope he had a good night and will be home soon.
I was so sorry to hear of the death of Steve Taylor. He was such a nice fellow and loved by all who knew him. Our sympathy surely goes out to his wife Amy and his children and all the rest of their families. He will surely be missed by all knew him.
I’m really looking forward to going to Georgetown and Indiana and getting to see some cousins I haven’t seen in a long time, Ruby Jean Howard and her son Bill Howard and also my cousin Dexter Howard who recently lost his wife, Brenda Jones Howard, and others if we can locate them.
It was good seeing Wes Addington on TV. He was on a program on the problem of coal and black lung. He’s a good lawyer and he sure was a big help to me. I sure appreciated him.
I just heard one of my favorite nephews, Paul Hatton, is in Whitesburg Hospital with breathing problems. I’ll go up and see him and hope he is feeling better.
I’m back now and had a great five days with my son Astor “ Red” Hatton and wife. We went to Fort Wayne, Ind., and had a great visit with our cousin Ruby Jean Howard and her son Bill Howard and brother-inlaw Dexter Howard and our cousin Ray Caudill. It was so much fun. They all get The Eagle. We went to a Chinese buffet and of course all overate. It was so good.
My brother John Howard is back home for a while. He and I went to Bonanza in Wise, Va., for lunch and we enjoyed it for a long time.
We are pleased to have new neighbors, Larry Miller and wife Kathy and daughter Christa. I want to thank his sister Shelby Feltner for dedicating a song on TV for me and my friend Shirley Niece.
My brother Hubert Howard is doing some better since his very serious surgery in Pikeville.
Our sympathy goes out to Rose Ballard for the loss of her brother Jerry Hall and to his wife Mattie. They were neighbors of mine.
Also, can anyone tell me how to get in touch with Charles Dixon and get one of his books on Blackey? I have one and my brother John Howard wants one.
May God bless all of you and may the ones who are sick get better soon. Try to be in church somewhere this week if you are able.
