On January 5, 2021, at approximately 5:24 P.M, Troopers with Kentucky State Police, Post 13, Hazard, responded to a two-vehicle collision on Cornett Hill in the Sassafras community of Knott County.
KSP said the initial investigation indicates that Sasha Halcomb, 32, of Whitesburg, was operating a 2020 Jeep Cherokee, southbound, when she crossed the center line into the northbound lane, colliding with a 2009 Toyota Tacoma being operated by Hammock.
Adams, 55, was a passenger in Hammock’s vehicle and was pronounced dead on scene by the Knott County Coroner’s Office. Hammock was transported by ambulance to Hazard A.R.H and later transferred to the U.K Medical Center to be treated for serious injury. The two were on their way to play bingo at Vicco when the collision occurred. Adams worked for Breeding Plumbing and Electric at Isom, and had been an election officer in the Isom precinct for many years. Hammock is the owner of Big Daddy’s Liquor Barn in Whitesburg.
Halcomb was transported to Whitesburg A.R.H. by private vehicle and was later released.
Toxicology results are pending at this time. This collision was reconstructed and is still under investigation by Detective Scott Caudill.
