A group of coal miners’ wives have founded an organization to relieve some of the holiday financial stress on those affected by mine-related layoffs.
Operation Coal Christmas will host a benefit celebration in December, honoring these families and providing them with a catered Christmas dinner, winter coats, raffle drawings, and toys for the children.
Affected families may register online at http:// www.operationcoalchristmas. webs.com/, at Pound New Peoples Bank, or at the OCC booth at the annual Wise Fall Fling on Oct. 13 and 14.
Operation Coal Christ- mas is a non-profit organization funded through private donations. Donations sought are winter coats in various child sizes, toys for different ages, non-perishable food items, and drinks. Items can be placed drop boxes at New Peoples Banks in Clintwood and Pound Va., and Clintwood Food City. Monetary donations may be made at any New Peoples Bank location to the “Operation Coal Christmas” account. The group also has a paypal account where donations can be made online at email@example.com.
